Welcoming a newborn is such a precious time, and capturing those first moments through photography is an experience that should be as peaceful and smooth as possible. To help prepare for your session, here are some gentle and practical tips:

BEFORE YOU ARRIVE
Keeping your baby awake for at least one hour before the session can make a world of difference. Interact with your little one — give them a bath or play with them — so they’ll be nice and sleepy by the time you arrive.

WHAT TO BRING
Dressing your baby in one layer of clothing is preferred. No singlets or clothes that need to go over their head.
Dummies are a great help, even if your baby doesn’t usually use one. They can help settle the baby without interrupting the flow of the session.

FEEDING AND COMFORT

If you’re breastfeeding, try to avoid foods that might cause gas (like citrus, broccoli, and caffeine) 24 hours before the session. If you're travelling more than 15mins to the session, plan for a full feed upon your arrival. If you’re formula-feeding, bring extra formula and bottles — your baby might want to feed more than usual during the session.

SIBLINGS
I love including siblings in newborn sessions, but it can be a bit of a rollercoaster! Don’t stress if your toddler has a meltdown or acts up — I'm a mum remember, I’ve seen it all, and I’m here to help. We’ll photograph them first, while their energy is high, and once they’re done, they’re free to go. If possible, arrange for someone to pick them up afterward, so you can enjoy some quiet time with your baby. If that’s not an option, bring along snacks, drinks, or something like a tablet to keep them entertained after their photos are done.

WHAT TO WEAR
You don’t need to match. Instead, focus on wearing whites or light colours that feel comfortable and true to you.
I do discourage black/dark coloured shirts as they can be quite harsh on skin tones and collect all types of fluff!
Accidents happen! You may want a spare outfit handy just in case of any baby-related mishaps.
Above all, be authentic. Don’t worry about comparing yourselves to other families. This session is about capturing the real beauty of your family, just as you are.

The goal is for your session to be as calm and enjoyable as possible. With a little preparation, we’ll create timeless images that celebrate your family’s love and connection during this special time.

Let’s embrace the moments, and have fun capturing your legacy.
